  GETTING STARTED

First of all USE THE Internet Explorer Browser (for preference, Version 8)

Open the meg-tree.co.uk WebSite (the "www" is not necessary - so we saved your typing !!)

You may click on any Buttons or Links of course to explore !!
BUT
for this Simple Introduction, Point to and Click on the "View Information" button.

  FAST SIMPLE SIMPLE VIEW (Snapshot)

You will see a series of buttons down the left-hand-side
AND
a Main Selecion area to the right of that !!

First we will look at the simple 'Cheap and Cheerful' SNAPSHOT view of information !!
SO
Point to and Click on the "Smaller Trees" button.

You can either select a Single Person or a Couple - I suggest that you start with my Mother, so Select "Nicholson Shiela" in the 'People' box.

Then Point to and Click on the "Snapshot" button !!

You will see a number of boxes on up to three lines.
All of the Boxes have two buttons - I suggest that you click on the "Snapshot" button it the box for my Mam and Dads 'Marriage' box.

So simple aint it !!

  GROWABLE FAMILY TREES

You will see a series of buttons down the left-hand-side
AND
a Main Selecion area to the right of that !!

First we will look at the sophisticated 'FAMILY TREE' view of information !!
SO
Point to and Click on the "Smaller Trees" button.

You can either select a Single Person or a Couple - I suggest that you start with my Mother, so Select "Nicholson Shiela" in the 'People' box.

Then Point to and Click on the "Grow Tree" button !!

You will see a number of boxes in the new Browser Window. Pick one of the boxes and Point to and Click on the "Navigate" button - then Click on the "Grow Tree" button.

By using this technique it is possible to create a Family Tree of your desire !!

Again, a very simple process to create a sophisticated Tree !!!

  IMPROVING THE LAYOUT OF THE TREE

This is about moving the boxes (also known as Elements) to improve the layout of the Family Tree.

(If you are told to "TAKE HOLD" of something on a Windows based PC - it means Point the Mouse at the place that you want to take hold of - then hold the Left-Button-on-the-Mouse down until you have dragged the thing to where you want it)

Well, take hold of the Top-Left-Hand-Corner of a box and drag it to somewhere near (just a bit below and to the right will do)where you want it to be !!

NOW - that is a bit good and special aint it !!

  OTHER TYPES OF TREES

Now you are clever enough to look at the other types of trees !!

Have a play with the trees from the following buttons.

• Descendants Tree - Full;

• Ancestor Tree - Full;

• Root and Branch Full Tree.

All of them are "Growable" and "Dragable" !!

  A DIFFERENT STYLE OF TREE

My Brother in Leeds and I were chatting about Meg-Tree when he happened to mention other family tree WebSites such as (I think) ancestors.com.

He said that the trees were shown in lines across the page.

Well, I had a rush of blood the head and threw together a first attempt at a "Lines" tree.

  ADDING YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS

In order to add information about members of your own family, you need to:

• Subscribe to the WebSite (it is easy - and - it is FREE);

• Log In (that is easy too !!)
